New release frames from Antons- Up In Frames- Adelaide

These are some of the new release frame samples which I have just recently received from Antons Mouldings.

Left are three different sizes of glossy ornate frames that come in black, white, red and gun metal. The photos really don't do them justice as they look really effective in real life.

The three profile sizes are 15mm wide by 20mm deep, 40mm wide by 25mm deep and 90mm wide by 35mm.

The large ones would look awesome around a large mirror and I am going to look at making one in the red colour for my showroom.

Picture
These two ranges are rustic timber and come in four different colours. They consist of black, white, brown and natural timber colours.

The sizes of the two profiles are 40mm wide by 30mm deep and 70mm wide by 35mm deep.

These mouldings are very effective and have proven to be quite popular so far according to my supplier.

Picture
These metallic silver frames come in several sizes ranging from a 20mm by 20mm square up to a 60mm wide by 20mm deep profile.

There is also a deep box profile in this range which is 55mm deep by 30mm wide.

These have real chrome look and would work really well with car posters and even on mirrors.

Again the photos really don't do them justice and they have to be seen in the flesh to get the real effect.

Picture
This range is an 18mm x 18mm frame which comes in gold/ black, silver/ black, black/ silver and white/ gold.

Being a very slight moulding this would be used on smaller pieces of artwork or certificate frames.

Picture
This bright red gloss frame is very eye catching and would compliment a large wall in any home.

It would look great with a large pop art or vintage style print and would suit any modern decor.

It has a 30mm wide by 55mm deep profile and is available in gloss red, silver, black and white.

Australian Cricket team 2006 signed bat and plaque.

Every Cricket bat is a different size and shape which means that we have customize many aspects when mounting and framing these items. They are very time consuming to do when done properly, and this is why they are more expensive to have framed than a poster or artwork etc.

When looking at getting canvases stretched in Adelaide you can't go past Up In Frames for quality stretchers and customer service.
We stretch Aboriginal canvases, Balinese canvases, Art canvases, Marimekko or any other materials that can be stretched.
We offer a large variety of different size stretcher frames (pictured left) to suit any canvas or material that you have to be stretched. We  also use quality bracing timber for larger frames.
We pride ourselves on producing a high quality product which will last a lifetime. We use only the best materials for your job and ensure that it is done at the highest standard.

Picture
Above is a stretcher frame that was made for a large Balinese canvas and has bracing in all four corners to prevent twisting or warping over time.
We corner brace any frame that is 90cm x 90cm or larger and use a centre brace on long and narrow canvases.

Picture
Picture
Above left shows how we join our stretchers properly using V- nails and glue and leave overnight for the glue to cure before we stretch the canvas. We also glue and staple our bracing so that there is no movement at all, which makes the frames a lot stronger than the dovetail frames that you put together yourself.
Picture
We prefer to stretch a canvas up on it's edge to prevent any damage or rubbing that you may incur having them laying face down on the table, especially on large canvases.
Using special rubber-jawed canvas pliers and an air-operated stapler, we can get just about any canvas as tight as a drum. They will always slacken off a little overtime, so it really is important to get them as tight as possible to begin with.

Picture
Picture
After your canvas is stretched you also have an option of framing it either in a standard frame, or in a canvas tray frame (pictured above and left) which gives it the appearance of floating by leaving a 5mm gap around the edge.
This doesn't have to be done straight away and can be done down the track if it doesn't fit your budget at the time.

Picture
The tray frame is available in black, white, raw, lime wash and black with a gold or silver lip.

It is also available in a couple of different sizes to suit a variety of depths of stretcher frames.

If you have a canvas or material that needs to be stretched or framed please give us a call or send an email for a free quote.

Framing Soccer Jerseys - Picture Framing Adelaide

When getting soccer jerseys framed it is well worth your while to get them done properly so that they last forever. The example below has a substantial black frame, three mat board colours, photos and a plaque. Soccer jerseys are usually a bit more expensive to have framed than AFL jumpers as they require oversize materials to allow for the sleeves, and end up being quite a bit larger. Conservation glass is also an option when getting these framed.

As you can see above, having a plaque and photos really finish the item off. The plaques can be done in several different colours and sizes, and can have logos or photos of the team.

Having said that there are many different options to accommodate for every budget. The picture below is showing a basic job when framing a soccer jersey, which still preserves and protects the garment. With this style the shirt is still spaced back from the glass using the same colour as the mat board behind.

Framing Art - Up In Frames - Adelaide

Just recently I had the pleasure of Framing an original piece of Art by Norman Lindsay. It was for a client who collects Fine Art and often has them re framed and restored as usually the frames have aged and are damaged from being moved around. Also because back in the day they didn't really know what was in certain framing materials and used backing and matboard that has acids which will eat into Art and also discolour the paper over time.

Picture
Unfortunately this piece was glued down back in the day and the backing used was not PH neutral which has caused discolouring in the work and also the matboard. However sometimes this adds to the age of the piece and once re framed properly they come up looking great.

Picture
As you can see here we have used a fillet under the glass around the Art and also around the writing. We framed this Art to match a previous piece that I had framed for the client a while back.
Along with a fillet, double mat and ornate frame we also used Tru Vue Conservation glass which has a 99% UV rating to protect the work from fading overtime. The Fine Art is backed with acid free foam board which will not effect the Art in any way.

This is a Limited Edition framed print currently for sale in our showroom. It commemorates the 11th Battalion at the Pyramid of Cheops in Egypt and is Limited Edition #488/5000.

The print is framed with a substantial black and gold frame, linen double mats and a gold fillet inside the matboard. The outside dimensions of the frame are 104 cm x 104 cm, so it is a sizable piece which would compliment a large wall in any house.

It is on sale now until the end of May for $399, normally priced at $650.

Picture
This is a fabulous photo to look at - you can sit for hours looking at all of the different people in the 11th Battalion. There are also some amazing stories in the print at the bottom which gives you a few things to look out for in the picture. The gold embossing of the different Battalions under the photo also really sets off the piece.

Picture
The above image is another ANZACs frame which we have for sale in our showroom which is a newspaper clipping of "The call to the arms under the Southern Cross". The image is of the march through Rundle Street in Adelaide and is taken from 'The Graphic' newspaper, November 14, 1914.

It is framed in a walnut coloured frame with a gold lip with a double matboard. The outside dimensions of the frame are 59 cm high x 47.5 cm wide. We also have this on sale until the end of May to commemorate this ANZAC Day. It is on sale for $99 and is normally priced at $135 in our showroom.

Rainy day Pool Table

5/4/2015

Picture
This is what we got up to with the kids on Easter Monday as it was a miserable day outside. Using only scraps of adhesive foam core, plastic cups and a off cut of purple front runner that I had in the cupboard, we made a pretty good Pool table at no cost!

The kids played on it for hours and had heaps of fun, although the cue was confiscated a few times when it was used as a sword or golf club.

Picture
As it is only made from foam core it probably won't last long with a three year old, but oh well, it was fun making it and a proper one probably wouldn't last much longer to tell you the truth!

I had also had to do a few reinforcements on the pockets with some tape as they were knocked off a few times at the start.

Materials used:
- Off cuts of foam core
- 6 x plastic cups
- Off cut of purple carpet
- EVA glue (and a bit of framing backing tape)

I hope you like our handy work to keep the kids busy on a rainy day?

IKEA picture frames- Up In Frames- Adelaide

31/3/2015

Up In Frames custom picture framing is located only 5 minutes from IKEA which means that if they don't have what you are looking for or don't have the size that you need, we can help to cater for any custom frame and mount board size.

Our home based showroom is located at the top of the driveway and is open from Monday- Friday 9:00am - 5:00pm and Thursday nights by appointment only.

We often have people coming here that need mat boards cut to suit the size of their print or artwork. We carry an extensive range of different colours and can usually cut them while you wait depending on circumstances of course.

We have a large range of frame and mat board samples in our showroom which will suit everybody's needs. All of our frames are hand made and we only use timber framing materials.

Picture
We also have a large range of pre-made frames and framed prints in our showroom, however it is impossible to compete price wise with IKEA as we are selling all hand made timber products.

We are also unable to put hangers and wire on most IKEA frames as the screws usually split the frame or will just pull out over time.

There are some framers that will not touch these frames and even mention this on their websites, but we are more than happy to try and help out where we can and assist in any of your framing needs.

At the end of the day with framing you really do get what you pay for!
