Adelaide Crows Memorabilia - Up In Frames

30/7/2015

Just recently we have had the pleasure of framing up some great Adelaide Crows memorabilia and photography for a client of ours. The photos were all taken by Vanessa Size Photography, a well known Adelaide photographer whose work really speaks for itself. My photos of the frames don't really do them justice! The image sizes are 75cm x 50cm so you can imagine that they are quite an impressive sight once framed. The finished sizes were 100cm x 75cm glass size to match the size of the guernsey frames.

The framing was for Dr Jones and Partners - the preferred medical imaging provider for the Adelaide Crows. They also had two signed Crows jumpers which they had framed to go along with the photos.

Seeing double?? Not the usual colour mats that I would use on Crows jumpers but. as I'm sure you would agree, they came up looking very smart in the end!

Framing Papyrus - Adelaide

9/7/2015

When having an original papyrus framed it is important to make sure that it is done properly to preserve the piece for years to come.
You need to make sure that the papyrus is mounted correctly, especially when float mounting like we have done with this one to show the torn edges. This shows that the work is on papyrus and adds to the effect.
It is not like we just slap some glue on the back and stick it down, there are a couple of different ways that we mount these items using archival gum tape and other different archival tapes depending on whether it is on papyrus or other materials. It also needs to be spaced back from the glass to prevent anything sticking to the glass overtime.
These factors make a papyrus pretty time consuming to frame but it is well worth doing it properly so that it lasts forever.
Picture
Below is the finished product, and as you can see it is wise to keep the frame and mats traditional to suit the piece rather than going with a modern framing style. This papyrus was 1350mm x 750mm glass size which is hard to tell in the picture, so it is a substantial piece to compliment any large wall. The customer was very happy with it and sent us a photo of it hanging on their lounge room wall. It looked great!

If you have anything like this that you are looking to get framed please feel free to contact us for a quote or pop in and have a look at some samples in our showroom. We will be more than happy to help you out.

Framing Jigsaw Puzzles - Up In Frames - Adelaide

This is a 3000 piece jigsaw puzzle which I have recently framed for a customer. Its dimensions were 1155mm x 830mm so it was quite a task to glue down as you would expect. My biggest worry was that it was going to fall apart when we were flipping it over and I was going to have to put it back together, what a nightmare that would have been!!
The customer had spent many hours piecing this puzzle together and decided that he would like to preserve and display it as it is an amazing picture.
Picture
Below is the finished product - after a lot of head scratching and sweating bullets it turned out great! The customer was very happy with it and can now look at his hard work for many years to come.

This just goes to prove that you really can frame just about anything!!

Framing Basketball Jerseys- Up In Frames- Adelaide

Here are a couple of basketball jerseys I have recently framed for a local Adelaide basketball team. They were presented to two players who have just retired from playing basketball for the club.

Their statistics were printed on an aluminium plaque which included the games played, points scored and rebounds along with the club logo and their names. What a great idea for players on their retirement!

All of our sports jerseys and shirts are mounted using a fine fabric tool where only a thin needle pushes through and shoots a plastic tab to secure the garment in certain positions. We also pin the item using dress making pins to get the jersey nice and tight.

No staples or glue are used in the mounting of any of our jerseys or shirts to ensure that the item is not damaged and can be worn again in the future if desired.

The frame above was presented to the winner of the halftime shootout at the clubs presentation. As you would agree, it is worth getting a plaque as it really makes these things look great!

Replacing Picture Frame Glass- Up In Frames- Adelaide

19/5/2015

Replacing glass in damaged frames is a day to day service that we offer here at Up In Frames. We have a large choice of glass types ranging from your basic 2mm clear float glass up to Museum grade glass.

We also offer clear acrylic as an alternative, however this is quite a bit more expensive than your basic float glass and we normally only recommend acrylic for large pieces that may be too dangerous to frame with glass.
Picture
Above is a sample of Tru Vue Museum and Conservation glass which both have a 99% UV rating. These are the top end of glass choices. Other options in the Tru Vue range are Non reflective, Premium clear and Conservation acrylic. These choices are generally for Memorabilia and high priced items and we find that the normal 2mm float glass suits the majority of framing jobs.
Picture
We always have standard glass in stock and have heaps of ready made glass cut to size and ready to go eg. 5 x 7 inch, 8 x 10 inch, 11 x 14 inch, A4, A3 and 16 x 20 inch.

We can custom cut glass to any size up to 1520mm x 1220mm (which are the size sheets that we buy) and normally ask that people bring in the broken frame to make sure that the glass is cut to the right size.

Call us today for any glass replacements that you may require.

Here at Up In Frames we have blank art canvases made to order. They range from kids canvases that are 30cm x 30cm up to 200cm x 120cm Artist canvases. These are all made to custom order as most artists have their specific sizes that they like to use.

We use only quality timber stretcher bar and bracing which is available in several different sizes.

The size that we generally use for these is a 38mm high by 32mm wide stretcher which gives them that deep box effect.

Other size thicknesses are available but obviously vary in price with the wider stretcher bars.

Picture
Picture
All of our stretcher frames are permanent and joined in the corners with V nails and lockjaw glue and our cross bracing is also glued and pinned to prevent any warping or twisting over time. The canvas used is a Fredrix style 70 grade which is self primed so that it is ready to paint straight onto.

If you have any queries or need a quote on a specific size canvas please contact us either by phone or email and we can give you a price straight away.
